Camp Safety Co-Design Workshop

Purpose

The Safety Navigator was created to help camps turn the new Youth Camper Act (HB1) and Heaven's 27 Camp Safety Act (SB1) laws into safety practices that work in real camp environments. Our first mission is to support camps with the implementation of these new laws ahead of camp season 2026.

To do this, we are hosting a co-design workshop - bringing together camps, parents, regulators, safety experts, and partners to collaborate and shape the Safety Navigator Toolkit: a suite of training modules, templates, checklists, and resources.

We believe this toolkit will serve every camp in Texas that is required to meet the new safety standards.

Over one evening and one day, participants will:

• Build a shared understanding of the key safety challenges facing camps post-HB1/SB1

• Provide critical input into the structure, tools, and training content of the Safety Navigator Program.

• Define practical pathways to implement the program and identify helpful areas for Safety Navigator to provide ongoing support.

• Strengthen relationships across the camp safety ecosystem - from operators, to families, and policymakers.
